CORONA FACT'S AND FAQ'S

  • What is the Coronavirus?

The corona virus, also known as COVID-19 or SARS-CoV-2, is an infectious disease caused by a novel virus and thus occurred for the first time in humans. The virus leads to an illness of the respiratory tract with the symptoms cough and fever, sometimes diarrhoea and muscle pain, and is thus very similar to influenza.

If the disease progresses seriously, it can lead to pneumonia, which can be fatal for small sections of the population (especially people with a weakened immune system such as HIV patients, the elderly or people with previous illnesses such as asthma or other lung diseases). The novelty of the virus also conceals its potential danger, as there is neither a vaccine nor suitable and tested therapies.

  • How can I protect myself of Covid-19?

The novel coronavirus is mainly transmitted via the so-called droplet infection, i.e. through saliva and nasal secretion, which is released mainly during coughing, sneezing and rhinitis.

    Our hygiene tips for you:

    1. wash your hands regularly: 30 seconds with warm water and soap

    2. disinfect: Surfaces that are contacted by many people. For example: Mobile phone displays or toilet seats.

    3. keep a distance: "Polite distance" of at least 1.5 metres to other people. The origin is irrelevant here. Please refrain from discrimination of Asian looking people!

    4. Wear mouth-nose-protection (in shops, public transport and in large crowds).

    5. Observe cough and rhinitis hygiene.

    6. Do not touch the face with your hands.

    7. Ventilate rooms regularly.

    8. Avoid public in case of symptoms, arrange for medical clarification.

    9. People with acute respiratory diseases should stay at home for their own protection.

  • You have symptoms of the coronavirus or had contact with infected persons?

Then the first thing to do is to remain calm. If you have symptoms such as coughing, fever, muscle aches, rhinitis and diarrhoea, first contact your family doctor or get in touch with the health insurance company's on-call service on 116 117 immediately. The further procedure will then be discussed with you.

If you have been in contact with people who have tested positive for the corona virus in the last 14 days, please contact the Munich Health Office immediately by e-mail at: rgu(at)infektionsschutz(at)muenchen.de. Even if you do not experience any symptoms as a result of the contact, it is extremely important to contact the Health Department: In order to effectively contain the spread of the coronavirus, the responsible authorities need to keep a close eye on (potentially) infected persons in order to adjust treatment and quarantine measures.

  • Media education on Covid-19

Especially now it is important for many people to stay up to date. Therefore there are many official bodies and authorities that publish up-to-date information on their websites.  For example, on the website of the Federal Centre for Health Education you can read up on the latest developments in the coronavirus epidemic or on the website of the World Health Organisation you can investigate social myths that have been exposed as false reports and corrected by experts.
